How To Get More Sleep

How Do I Get More Sleep?

I know it sounds crazy – at least to me it did – and in some ways it still does. It did not make any green tea ALT="get more sleep with green tea"sense that my sleeping problems could be helped with what I considered a stimulant. If “just anybody” had told me how to get more sleep by drinking green tea, I would have thought they didn’t know what they were talking about. Fortunately, the person who suggested it to me was someone I respected and trusted, otherwise I never would have considered it enough to try it.

What Have I Got To Lose?

What the heck – what did I have to lose other than more sleep! But, I was already having that problem anyway, so I figured I could sacrifice a little more sleep if it didn’t work. I had been having problems sleeping for quite a while. My problem was not always exactly the same. Mostly, I would wake up frequently or any little noise would wake me and then I couldn’t go right back to sleep. Instead, I would lay awake forever it seemed until I got up and went into the living room to read or play word games on my iPad. When I was younger, I was well known for being able to sleep anywhere and through anything. Lol! I was a great sleeper. But lately, that hasn’t been my reality.

Green Tea To Get More Sleep

So, the suggestion was that I should drink a cup of green tea about 1 hour before going to bed. Ok then, I gave it a try! Much to my surprise, I actually had a good night’s sleep. I could hardly believe it. Needless to say, I’ve continued this practice with very good results.

My Findings

So, this is what I found out. Green tea has an amino acid in it called L-theanine. L-theanine is a natural relaxant that helps reduce stress but without side effects like drowsiness and mental fogginess. L-theanine calms the alpha brain waves to help deal with stress. Dopamine is a brain hormone and neurotransmitter that can be depleted by various stress factors in our lives and L-theanine helps to normalize dopamine levels.

This Is What I Do

Every night, about 1 hour before going to bed, I drink a small cup of green tea, lightly steeped, and it is really helping me to get more sleep. It is amazing the difference I feel between not getting a good night’s sleep and by getting a good one! It’s obvious that us humans need proper sleep to function at our adequate sleep - pinterest resizedgreatest potential.

For someone who doesn’t want to drink a cup of green tea before bed for whatever reason, there are L-theanine supplements that you can buy if you prefer. One thing I found out is that it’s important to get the pure form of L-theanine which is called Suntheanine.
